University and Industry Together for Innovation: Antonio Azzarito’s Case Study at Clerprem

Collaboration between universities and industry is an essential driver of growth and innovation. From this partnership comes the business case of Antonio Azzarito, now part of the Clerprem team, who developed his university project titled “Analysis and Balancing of a Mixed-Model Assembly Line: The Clerprem Case.”

The project, carried out directly within the company, aimed to improve the efficiency of the KISS OBB assembly linethrough the determination of standard times, the verification of workload balancing, and the identification of non–value-added activities.
By applying the principles of Lean Manufacturing, Antonio was able to optimize the process and propose concrete improvement actions, achieving tangible results in terms of productivity and quality.

Project Overview – Assembly Line Analysis

In his work, Antonio conducted an in-depth analysis of the KISS OBB assembly line, a mixed-model line producing various seat configurations based on optional accessories. The main goal was to improve efficiency and workload balancing, identifying non–value-added activities and potential sources of waste.
Using chronotechnical time measurement methods, he determined the standard operation times and, by applying the Patterson method, verified the correct workload balance across stations, avoiding both overloads and idle time for operators.

Results and Project Value

The analysis made it possible to quantify the improvement potential of the line and propose specific corrective actions. Key outcomes include:
• The definition of reliable standard times
• The optimization of operational resources
• The reduction of non–value-added activities

The project demonstrated how the application of Lean Manufacturing principles can generate measurable benefits, improving both productivity and quality. This structured and data-driven approach perfectly aligns with Clerprem’s culture of continuous improvement, confirming how cooperation between academia and industry can lead to genuine innovation.

Univeristy and Industry together

This case study is a concrete example of how young professionals can contribute to Clerprem’s continuous improvement journey—a company that has always invested in innovation, training, and collaboration with the academic world.
University students who wish to develop theses or applied case studies within Clerprem find an ideal environment to face real industrial challenges and contribute to projects focused on technological and organizational growth.
At Clerprem, continuous improvement is an integral part of the corporate culture—not only in technical processes but also in the strategic vision of a company that looks to the future with curiosity, creativity, and purpose.
