Laser Welding: Clerprem’s Innovation for Precision, Quality, and Efficiency

Clerprem Innovates the Production Process with Laser Welding

Technological innovation is at the core of our company philosophy. In the Atessa plant, Cp International—the Group’s facility dedicated to manufacturing metal structures for our automotive and rail components—we have introduced a new laser welding technology.

The robot was installed by Mfs Robotics, an Abruzzo-based company specializing in the development and production of robotic cells and automated machines, which fully supported us in integrating this new system. For the Clerprem Group, this marks a significant step forward in ensuring quality, precision, and efficiency in our production processes.

How Does Laser Welding Work?

A laser is a device that converts electrical energy into light energy, generating a coherent and highly concentrated beam. This beam is capable of heating and melting materials with extreme precision, reaching temperatures of approximately 1300°C.

Unlike traditional techniques, laser welding minimizes deformations thanks to its high energy density, which targets only a small area. This makes it ideal for applications requiring high dimensional and aesthetic precision.

The Advantages of Laser Welding

✔ Absolute precision: Accurate control of welding depth and width.
✔ Minimal deformation: The concentrated heat prevents material distortion.
✔ Production efficiency: Reduced processing times and lower surface preparation costs for painting.
✔ Superior aesthetics: Impeccable finish, ideal for visible components.

Applications in Clerprem

We have introduced laser welding technology for steel feet with thin thicknesses (1 mm ± 0.2 mm), reducing the deformations that would occur with traditional welding. The first components produced with this technology will be rail projects, manufactured in our Atessa plant.

But we are not stopping here: we are already planning to apply laser welding to covers, closure casings, and other thin sheet metal components. Thanks to the extremely low material deformation, we can eliminate surface preparation phases for painting, achieving significant time and cost savings while ensuring a high-quality aesthetic finish.

A Future Driven by Innovation

The adoption of laser welding marks another step in our mission for industrial excellence. We will continue investing in advanced technologies to enhance our processes and provide our customers with increasingly high-performing, innovative, and sustainable products.
